The power supply provides constantly regulated 12 volt power to the computer to allowing smooth functionality while the starter motor is in operation (6 to 18 volt input), eliminating undesired restarts of the computer and the potential loss of critical data. The processor is housed in a sealed aluminum case for the optimal combination of ruggedness and insulation. Its compact size allows for mounting in small spaces such as the glove box, center console, under seat, or boot.

Integrated in the CPU, the Power Control Module protects against inadvertent battery drain and provides an automatic and orderly shutdown of the M5. Other computer-dependent accessories, such as external radio modems, can also be powered off with the computer when the timer expires or low voltage is detected.
